 NIRx Equipment Disinfection Guidelines

To safely prepare your NIRx equipment for each participant, your system’s probes and NIRSCap must be disinfected in between data collection sessions. For manufacturer guidelines on disinfection of NIRSCaps and probes, please see the following leaflets.

NIRSCaps: EasyCap Disinfection

NIRx labels, grommets and spacers may be left in the cap and soaked in these solutions.

NIRx Probes: Care, Handling and Safe Use Instructions

Note that probes should never be soaked in solution, they should always be removed from the cap; this includes short distance detectors.

June 2020 Update

These procedures are still recommended to disinfect NIRx equipment in light of the COVID-19 outbreak. For probes, the CDC recommends disinfecting electronics with wipes having at least 70% alcohol, as we do for our probes. EasyCap has released instructions specific to COVID-19, which you can view below.

NIRSCaps: EasyCap COVID-19 Disinfection Directive

Refer to your research institution and local health authorities for guidelines on how to conduct human biomedical research safely at this time. For your personal protection, see these CDC guidelines.
