Features Overview

It’s time to bid farewell to our beloved NIRSport1!

For over 20 years, NIRx has been committed to pushing the boundaries of technological advancements to provide our researchers with state-of-the-art tools to do high-quality research and produce high impact publications. NIRSport1 was extremely advanced at the time of its development and 8 years later it is still used in many fantastic publications and serves the scientific community.

As the fNIRS field and technology has progressed, we have continued to focus on developing and enhancing our technology to push the boundaries of what is possible with an fNIRS device. We are proud to say that the NIRSport2 is currently one of the most advanced fNIRS systems currently available.  Developed by our expert team of engineers and physicists, the wearable NIRSport2 is built to accommodate all participants, under all experimental conditions, and accommodate whole head measurements.

Superior Data Quality under all Conditions

The NIRsport2 is engineered to get excellent signal quality, being inclusive of all participant populations and under all experimental conditions. High-powered sources (30% higher than NIRSport1) ensure optimal light-intensity is delivered, regardless of hair, skin type, and cortical location.   Our detectors have been enhanced with a larger dynamic range to capture experimental variance of the smallest magnitude.  The NIRSport2 is also the only mobile and wearable fNIRS system that can incorporate premium Avalanche Photodiode Detectors (APD).

Signal Level Optimization

The automatic signal optimization algorithm adjusts the individual source power brightness for measurements across difficult cortical regions to obtain superior signal quality. The individual source optimization prevents detector and signal saturation, which was once a consideration when measuring varied cortical surfaces (hair/no hair/thinner region of the skull). Additionally, a live signal indicator provides feedback on signal quality during cap preparation/adjustments, making the setup significantly faster (less than 2 minutes to set up).

2x Head-Coverage

The NIRSport2 doubles the probe capacity of our mobile platform and supports up to 16 sources - 16 detectors. The additional probe capacity supports increased cortical coverage, higher density measurements, and hyperscanning. A single system has the ability to capture half the adult cortex!

True Mobility

The device streams data through a variety of methods to allow the utmost flexibility in your paradigms. The NIRSport2 can connect to the acquisition PC via Wi-Fi and direct USB connection. The system also supports onboard recording without the need for connecting to a PC during recording. This will allow your research to incorporate unique, mobile, and naturalistic experimental paradigms.

Made for High Density Measurements

The NIRSport 2 can seamlessly cascade up to 5 systems into a single device for high density mobile measurements, allowing up to 80-sources and 80-detectors on a single participant.

Hyperscanning

Multiple NIRSport2 devices (up to 5) can be configured for simultaneous, multi-participant measurements. Through a dedicated hyperscanning app, all data and event trigger information is fully synchronized amongst multiple NIRSport2 systems with ease and from a single software interface.

Coming soon: integration with physiological sensors

We will soon have an extension for the NIRSport2 to capture data on a variety of physiological measures such as heart rate, GSR, body temperature, SpO2 as well as ECG, EMG, and EEG. Those measures will help improve your data quality by minimizing physiological and movement artifacts.

Seeing is believing!
